The mission of Vancouver Executive Association is to promote
business and share ideas with trusted business leaders in a
non-competing environment.
To be Vancouver's premiere business association offering
professional networking and fellowship through committed membership.
I believe in the Vancouver Executives Association because it
stands for mutual interests, service from each to all, for cheerful
cooperation, for more real efficiency, for success based on merit,
for interchange of useful information, for constant progress in
things that are worthy.
I believe in the organization because its precepts urge me on,
always satisfying, always promising, and though it has hours of
leisure and lighter vein, yet it is an organization with a purpose,
and does not forget that its members do not idly dream or drift, but
have hard work to do and loads to lift.
The Vancouver Executives Association was founded in 1920 by a
group of Vancouver's leading businessmen who decided to form a group
for the purpose of assisting each others business success through
cooperative networking. By limiting membership to
one company per business classification, an atmosphere of openness and sharing
was assured. Since members are all decision-makers within their
respective firms, whatever the size, business dealings are easily
facilitated.
Over
the years, names changed and businesses evolved. There no longer is a
company that delivers coal and sawdust in a horse and buggy, and
typewriter dealers are now computer specialists. Throughout the years,
the basic ideology of the Vancouver Executives Association has remained
constant: to promote good business in an atmosphere that is collegial,
congenial, and cooperative.
Today, there are over 100 executives associations throughout
North America and Europe. The Vancouver Executives Association is a
member of the Northwest Regional Conference, which includes 13
associations in key cities in British Columbia, Alberta,
Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Washington, and Oregon.
Executive Associations are freestanding not-for-profit societies
and not franchises or corporately owned. This ensures that all dues
and monies raised are used for the sole purpose of the association.
The Vancouver Executives Association meets weekly at the
Terminal City Club in downtown Vancouver where members enjoy a
luncheon program that allows for the informal exchange of ideas,
information and business insights. Forms are provided to facilitate
the exchange of sales leads and opportunities to be introduced to
new potential clients.
After the informal luncheon, a member speaks on his or her firm,
giving members an in-depth knowledge of each other's company and business practices.
This provides helpful insights to each member and encourages business between
members by communicating the products, services and unique benefits by each member.
On occasion, a luncheon meeting is held at a member's place of
business. These events, fully catered, allow for a member to
show-off his or her company with group tours at the office or plant.
Members gain first-hand experience on how the company works and
it gives them a chance to meet the staff and management of the member firm.
In addition to members, guest speakers are regularly invited to
share their visions and expertise on matters of finance, commerce,
community affairs, sports, crime, and other matters of general and
specific business interests. The Annual Economic Forecast, held in
January, features speakers whose talks help guide business
decisions for the upcoming year.
Membership is limited to one company per business category to ensure quality
and to encourage maximum sharing of ideas and information. Applications for
membership are carefully screened and only those applicants who adhere to the
highest professional and ethical standards are accepted into the Vancouver Executives
Association.
- Active Membership, a decision-maker within the member firm;
- Alternate Membership, a second decision-maker within the member firm;
- Associate Membership, a past representative no longer active in business;
- Honourary Past Presidents, past representatives who have served as President
and are no longer active in the company they represented.
