Weekly Meeting – Guest Speaker Series: “Block Chain Beyond Crypto Currencies . . . And Back Again”

Program: Guest Speaker Series with Victoria Lemieux
Victoria is an experienced and multidimensional technology leader, innovator and academic. She currently holds a position as an Associate Professor of Archival Science at the University of British Columbia’s School of Information where she is founder and lead of Blockchain@UBC, the University of British Columbia’s multidisciplinary block chain research cluster now ranked #1 in Canada for block chain education.
She is also a consulting Chief Information Security & Privacy Officer for Molecular You, a health intelligence company and Global Advisory on Privacy & Security Technologies to Lifeguard Digital Health. She has previously held senior positions as a professional archivist and records manager within the public sector, as a VP responsible for information governance and IT Security for a global investment bank, in higher education as a senior administrator and educator, and at the World Bank as a Senior Public Sector Specialist.
She has consulted for the United Nations, the Commonwealth Secretariat, and the Inter-American Development Bank and has collaborated on research projects with the US Treasury, Office of Financial Research. Victoria currently sits on the International Standards Organization’s Technical Committee 307 (block chains and distribution ledgers).
She holds a doctorate from University College London (Archival Studies, 2002) and, since 2005, has been a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP). In 2020, she received a Blockchain Ecosystem Leadership Award and was named one of Canada’s Top 20 women in IT Security. She is the author and editor of award-winning articles and books, including Building Decentralized Trust – Multidisciplinary Perspectives on the Design of Blockchains and Distributed Ledgers (Springer, 2020).
